The agony of choosing the right material

PLA+ or ABS?
What is the right material for my layout?
Because 3D printing is not just 3D printing!
⭐ Our favorite: PLA+ – the best choice for most applications
Our PLA+ tracks offer the ideal combination of precision, aesthetics and reliability – making them the first choice for most applications.
Advantages of PLA+:
- Very high dimensional accuracy → perfect fit and smooth running
- Particularly smooth surface → optimal running characteristics for your trains
- Dimensionally stable with normal indoor use
- More environmentally friendly due to bio-based raw materials
- Clean, uniform appearance – ideal for demanding layouts
Disadvantages of PLA+:
- Not suitable for high temperatures (e.g. direct sun in summer)
- Slightly less flexible than ABS
👉 Recommendation: For almost all indoor applications, exhibitions and detailed layouts
🔧 Alternative for special requirements: ABS
If your tracks need to be particularly robust or are exposed to higher temperatures, ABS is a sensible alternative.
Advantages of ABS:
- Very durable and impact-resistant
- Higher heat resistance
- Slightly flexible → less prone to breakage under stress
Disadvantages of ABS:
- Slightly less precise in manufacturing
- Surface not as smooth as PLA+
- Visually a little less refined
👉 Recommendation: For heavily used layouts or warmer environments
